ISSUES

Fighting For Us

Covid 19 continues to impact our everyday lives. Many schools are closing and there is uncertainty about the effects the most recent outbreak will have on jobs and our local economy. Angela understands the concerns of balancing a household budget while running a small business and navigating the ever changing landscape. She will work to ensure the federal government is an ever present partner helping to look out for small businesses and federal workers. She will act as a resource to families, providing information on shifting attendance policies, mandates, and school closings. Angela will fight to ensure that District 4 residents have the resources they need to come out on the other side of this crisis stronger and healthier than before.

Former Maryland Delegate Angela Angel Officially Launches Campaign for Congress

Angel pledges “to bring resolve of a working mother, the strength of a survivor and the fight to deliver” for Congressional District 4 residents

District Heights, MD – Former District 25 Delegate Angela Angel officially launched her run for Maryland’s district 4 Congressional seat with the release of a powerful video today.

**WATCH THE VIDEO**

Angel narrates the video, which centers around her journey from homelessness and an abusive marriage to her election to the Maryland House of Delegates. While there, she took on prescription drug companies, pushed for critical reforms to protect domestic violence survivors and passed groundbreaking legislation to address the mental health of Maryland children.

“I know what it is like to get knocked down. I also know what it takes to get back up,” said Angel in the video. “In 2014, I went from homeless to the House of Delegates, where I authored and passed bills protecting domestic violence survivors, providing mental health services for our children, and holding companies accountable for overcharging seniors for prescription drugs. Getting things done is what my life has been all about.”

Former Delegate Angel is an attorney, public servant and organizer who has worked at the county, state and federal levels to make a real difference in her community. Prior to her election to the Maryland House of Delegates, Angela worked for President Obama’s campaign, for now-Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), Governor Martin O’Malley, the Prince George County’s delegation in the Maryland General Assembly, and Prince George’s Councilmember Derrick Leon Davis. She served as Counsel to the Prince George’s County Department of Environment during her time in the House, and most recently served as Director of Black Engagement for Pete Buttigieg’s 2020 presidential campaign.

Angela is running to ensure that the women of Maryland see themselves in their Congressional delegation. Angela will bring the perspective of a working mother who has fought to improve the quality of life for all of our families, and the heart of a champion who will never stop fighting to protect Marylanders’ constitutional rights.

Full script of the video is below:

In June of 2012, I found myself in a homeless shelter nine months pregnant, escaping an abusive marriage.

I know what it's like to get knocked down. I also know what it takes to stand back up .

By June 2014, I went from homeless to the House of Delegates, where I authored and passed bills protecting survivors of domestic violence, providing mental health services for our children, and holding companies accountable for overcharging seniors for prescription drugs.

My mom taught me to be fearless and compassionate. My dad taught me how to fight for others. It's why I became a lawyer prosecuting some of the most difficult sex crimes child abuse and domestic violence cases.

Getting things done is what my life has been all about.

My name is Angela Angel and I'm running for Congress, where I'll fight for universal pre-K, investment in our small businesses and development along the Pennsylvania Avenue corridor. And I'll make sure the long-promised FBI headquarters comes to our community.

I will bring the resolve of a working mother, the strength of a survivor and the fight to deliver for our community, so we all get back up stronger than ever.
